about
Off With The Pixies is a biomaterials studio dedicated to exploring the future of sustainable design. We specialise in transforming waste into high-performance, innovative biomaterials and design applications through creative processes that honor nature. Our work paves the way for a materials revolution, reshaping how we think about resources, sustainability, and design.
mission statement
Our mission is to redefine materiality. We aim to pioneer the use of regenerative biomaterials and reframe collective ideas of 'waste streams' as valuable 'resource streams.' Through our work, we strive to inspire a global shift towards circular practices and foster deeper harmony with our environment.
process: a glimpse
Our process begins with locality—identifying abundant waste (value) streams within the local environment. From there, we conduct research to explore potential directions, followed by a highly experimental phase of hands-on "play," where new biomaterials are developed. We then explore and test the properties of these materials before moving on to applications. The biomaterials we create not only perform well but also tell a story of place, sustainability, and innovation.

Meet the Founder: Chloe Harper is a creative problem solver based in Melbourne, Australia. She established the studio in late 2023, and her practice blends material experimentation, artistic expression, and sustainable product design. With a deep respect for nature, she believes it holds all answers, and honours God as the greatest designer of all. This philosophy drives her endless curiosity and exploration. Chloe largely works with food and agricultural waste, focusing on transforming these resources into innovative biomaterials. She completed her formal studies in Industrial Design in New Zealand, but recognises that her learning is ever-evolving, and just beginning. Chloe's innovative works exploring alternative materiality have garnered recognition throughout Australia, New Zealand, and beyond.
the story behind the name
Growing up, Chloe was often told her head was "in the clouds" and that she was "off with the pixies." While the phrase was usually intended as an insult, Chloe never took it that way. Instead, she embraced it with optimism, seeing it as a reflection of her creative mind. As Chloe got older, she noticed that when she creates, her mind enters that very same daydream space—dancing "off with the pixies," where anything is possible. This perpetual sense of imaginative exploration and curiosity became the foundation for her design practice. Embracing this mindset, Off With The Pixies Studio was born—an intersection of experimental, speculative, and meditative design.
